What you get with Redis 8 on Lathe.

TLS only: Redis listens on port 6379 over TLS only, with a password. The plain-text port is closed.
A memory budget you set: Each engine gets a slice of the plan's RAM; move the slider and Redis restarts with the new limit in about a minute.
Cache or database: Choose the policy when memory is full: refuse writes (a database) or evict the least recently used keys (a cache). Changed with a reload.
JSON, search and time series: Redis 8 ships its data structures for JSON documents, full-text search and time series built in.
Console in the browser: Browse keys, inspect values and run commands from the instance page, read-only or read-write, switched off when you do not need it.
Durability: Append-only persistence is on, so a restart keeps your data; a daily image of the whole machine backs it up.
Version and licence: Redis 8, the upstream build with no Lathe patches, under the AGPL-3.0 licence. Minor updates in a fixed weekly window (Sundays 03:00 UTC), announced by email in advance.
On the same machine: Postgres, Redis, CouchDB and NATS can run together on one dedicated instance in the EU; switch any of them on or off later, each with its own memory budget and credentials.

Questions about Redis

Is Redis data persistent?

Yes. The append-only log is enabled, so keys survive a restart, and the whole machine is imaged daily. Treat it as durable within the limits of a single node.

Which eviction policy should I choose?

noeviction, the default, refuses writes when the budget is full and suits a database or a queue. allkeys-lru evicts the least recently used key and suits a cache.

Can I run Redis without Postgres?

Yes. An instance runs any mix of the engines; Redis alone gets the whole memory budget.

Which Redis licence applies?

Redis 8 under its AGPL-3.0 licence, unmodified. You connect with any standard client over TLS.
