Lathe runs CouchDB 3 for you on a dedicated machine in the EU: JSON documents over HTTPS, an admin user of your own, Fauxton in the browser, replication for offline-first apps and Mango queries, with a memory budget out of the plan's RAM and a flat monthly price.

- CouchDB answers on port 6984 over TLS with your admin credentials; there is no plain-text port.

- Create and delete databases from the instance page, the API or MCP; open Fauxton for everything else.
- Replication
- Standard CouchDB replication in both directions, so PouchDB and other CouchDB servers sync with it as they would with any CouchDB.
- Mango queries and views
- The full HTTP API: Mango queries, map/reduce views, attachments, changes feeds.
- A memory budget
- CouchDB's Erlang runtime is frugal at idle; give it as little or as much of the plan's RAM as the workload needs.
- Backed up with the machine
- A daily image of the whole instance, restored in place, checked monthly.
- Version and licence
- CouchDB 3, the upstream build with no Lathe patches, under the Apache-2.0 licence. Minor updates in a fixed weekly window (Sundays 03:00 UTC), announced by email in advance.
- On the same machine
- Postgres, Redis, CouchDB and NATS can run together on one dedicated instance in the EU; switch any of them on or off later, each with its own memory budget and credentials.

Questions about CouchDB
Does PouchDB sync with it?
Yes. Point PouchDB at the HTTPS URL with the credentials; it is standard CouchDB replication.
Is there a plain HTTP port?
No. Only HTTPS on 6984, with the instance's certificate.
Is it a cluster?
No. One node on a dedicated machine, backed up daily. For a multi-node cluster, replicate to a second instance.
